Lack of Respect for ART

0
redcliffe-rail-line-pathway-murals-collage

The stunning wildlife artwork created by David Houghton Art along the Redcliffe Peninsula rail line shared pathway has been one of the latest victims of graffiti artists.

Lack-of-respect-for-ARTThe iconic murals were painted so that local residents could appreciate their aesthetic appeal on the shared pathway but also as a deterrent for vandalism.

The graffiti is not only an eyesore, as graffiti normally is but it also distracted from the underlying art, much to the dismay of local residents.

Division 4 Councillor Julie Greer said it was extremely disappointing to see the shared path murals defaced by graffiti and that council took a zero tolerance approach to graffiti in public spaces.

“Council crews were quick to action and have since removed the graffiti,” Cr Greer said.

“If you see graffiti along the shared pathway and in other publics spaces, I encourage you to report it to council as soon as possible for maintenance crews to action.”

Council officers captured images of the graffiti and tags before removing them to assist police in identifying known tags.

“In order to provide greater access for the community, Hornibrook bus lines will service an indented bus stop on Capestone Boulevard, east of the Kinsellas Road East and Capestone Boulevard Intersection, near Campbell Drive.

“Capestone residents will benefit from access to Mango Hill Station, and additional travel options to Brisbane.

“Routes 681 and 682 continue on to the North Lakes Bus Station, giving commuters more options when taking public transport.

Hornibrook bus lines will also be making minor amendments to 22 current school bus routes to better reflect on time running and increased existing residential population catchment areas

The route changes are scheduled to take effect from the start of term 3 on Monday 10 July.

TransLink, in conjunction with its bus operator Hornibrook Bus Lines, will notify the affected schools of these changes.

Mango Hill’s population set to soar

Recent developments in Mango Hill have raised concerns for some locals.

You may have noticed the construction zone at the entrance to the Mango Hill Village. A townhouses development is underway by the Phillip Usher Construction Group on Kinsellas Road West.

Philip-Usher-Constructions-Kinsellas-Road-West

Two hundred and thirty-three units are being built on the site, containing three or four bedrooms each. Approximately seven hundred to nine hundred new residents are expected to make Mango Hill their new home within the complex.

With the expansion comes a need for facilities to accommodate the rising population. A Childcare Centre and a small shopping precinct are being built within the complex, near the road with the townhouses to the rear. A small convenience type shop, plus eateries and other specialty stores are expected in the precinct, a Philip Usher Group spokesperson has confirmed.

Future-Mango-Hill-Ring-RoadThe Group will also be responsible for the Mango Hill Ring Road development. Once development starts, it’s expected to be completed within six to eight months, weather permitting.

On the other side of Mango Hill, Impact Homes are building two townhouse complexes, sixteen new townhouses on Wyatt Crescent and twenty on Abercrombie Street. They’re expected to be completed late 2017/early 2018.

There’s no denying, Mango Hill is up and coming!

Intersection upgrade for Bonnet Parade gets the go ahead!

New-giveway-sign

Works to upgrade the Bonnet Hill intersection onto Mango Hill Boulevard have been now been completed!

The Big Local team made Moreton Bay Regional Council aware of safety concerns with the stop sign and the linemarking placement on Bonnet Parade, leading onto Mango Hill Boulevard shortly after the start of the school year.

Division 4 Councillor Julie Greer thanked the local community for bringing their feedback to council’s attention, regarding the intersection of Bonnet Parade and Mango Hill Boulevard, which council worked to address as quickly as possible.

She issued this statement: “Crews will attend the site as soon as possible once the current wet weather clears and move the line marking forward, closer to the intersection, to improve visibility,” Cr Greer said.

“After further reviewing the intersection and motorists’ movements, Council will also replace the stop sign with a give-way sign and associated line markings, to safely improve traffic flow through the intersection.

“Alike all roads across the region, council will continue to monitor traffic movements in this area into the future.”

All works have now been completed since the statement was issued.
