Moreton Bay Regional Council will be carrying out works to upgrade facilities at Danzy Buchanan Park in the coming weeks.

Works are scheduled to commence at the start of March and are expected to be completed within two weeks, weatherpermitting.

A new park shelter to provide shade to existing seating alongside the tennis court is due to be installed.

“I am pleased this project is about to commence following requests from local residents”, Councillor Julie Greer said.

“The project will provide additional park infrastructure for local residents and visitors who use the park and wish to watch play on the tennis courts.”

“Once complete, this project will help make the Moreton Bay Region an even better place to live, work and play.”

In order to minimise any disruptions, works will be undertaken between 7am to 6pm where possible.

When works commence, Council asks that you observe the instructions of work crews and road signage, and apologises for any inconvenience that you may encounter.

Should you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact Council’s Project Officer, Shane Ward on 3205 0555 or at www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au

Opportunity to ‘Get Started’ into a sports program for local kids

Local families should get ready to take advantage of extra vouchers made available by the Palaszczuk government to help young people join sports or a recreation club.

Chris Whiting MP, Member for Murrumba, said Treasurer and Minister for Sport, Curtis Pitt, had made an extra $750,000 available to help more than 5,000 Queensland children kick-start their involvement in organised sport through Round 9 of the popular Get Started vouchers program.

“The program provides vouchers that can be used to help meet the cost of club membership for young people interested in sporting activities,” Mr Whiting said.

“The vouchers are designed for families who might otherwise not be able to afford the cost of a sports or recreational club fees.

Get-Started-Vouchers

“High demand for the $150 vouchers in the current Round 9 of the Get Started program led to the initial allocation of $4.2 million worth of vouchers being exhausted very soon after the online applications opened last week.

“More than 800 vouchers were issued to families in the Murrumba electorate but I know there is demand for more.

“So it is good news that Curtis Pitt has allocated an additional $750,000 in vouchers that will be available online from 9.15 am on Thursday.

“The extra funds should help as many as 5,000 more children across Queensland to get involved in their favourite sport.

“I urge anyone who wants a voucher to act quickly on Thursday morning by visiting https://www.qld.gov.au/recreation/sports/funding/getinthegame/.

“The vouchers are issued on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, and demand is always high, so you need to be quick,” Mr Whiting said.

Safety concern for Mango Hill Boulevard as bridge is set to open in time for school

0
Bonnet-parade-Stop-Sign-causes-issues-for-locals

School’s back and Mango Hill Boulevard is set to open – but will things run smoothly?

Residents of Mango Hill are concerned that an intersection just metres from the school is an accident waiting to happen with vehicles regularly ignoring the stop sign.

Our short video above, shows motorists clearly ignoring the stop sign.

The Big Local team spent 20 minutes at the intersection today, witnessing every vehicle breaking the law by either not stopping or stopping past the marked line, raising the question, is the intersection able to cope with an increased volume of traffic safely? Have your say on the Facebook Page.

Many residents believe that the line-marking for the intersection is placed too far back on Bonnet Parade to allow motorists a clear view to proceed, resulting in motorists edging into the intersection to see if they have clear passage.

Failing to stop at a stop line at an intersection without traffic lights will land you a $330 fine and the loss of 3 demerit points. Source – Demerit points schedule.

Council have been tagged in our Facebook post and are being made aware of the problem. We will keep you up to date on any action taken.

Mango Hill Boulevard Bridge due to open in just a few days time!

It’s the announcement we’ve all been waiting for!

The new Mango Hill Boulevard will be open for public use on Monday, the 23rd of January 2017, to coincide with the start of school, so long as weather permits.

Division Four Councillor Julie Greer said the new bridge would provide an important link from the eastern side of the new rail line to the west, connecting Mango Hill with the emerging Capestone community.

“These bridges and connecting roads will provide much better and safer access to Mango Hill State School and the new Mango Hill train station through to the St Benedict’s College and new Mango Hill East train station in the Capestone area,” Councillor Greer said.

“This will not only cut travel time for people who live in the local area, but will also help to reduce traffic on Anzac Avenue, which will benefit thousands of motorists throughout the region from Petrie all the way to the Peninsula.”

“New access paths to the shared pathway along the Redcliffe Peninsula Line will also be opened up, providing safer transit through the Mango Hill area for cyclists and pedestrians, including students accessing schools along the rail corridor.”

“I am so pleased this project has been delivered before the start of the 2017 school year.”

“It will also now be much easier for people living on the eastern side of the railway line to get to the wonderful new shopping precinct at North Lakes and will cut down their travel time to Westfield, Ikea and Costco.”

The Mango Hill Boulevard Bridge is one of five major road bridges delivered through funding provided by Moreton Bay Regional Council, which contributed $105 million to the project as a partner in the Redcliffe Peninsula Line. The recently opened Capestone Boulevard Bridge was also delivered as part of the project.

Rothwell Roundabout Upgrade – Completion Aimed For Late 2017

0
rothwell-roundabout-intersection-upgrade-overview

From July 2016, work will commence on upgrading the Deception Bay Road and Anzac Avenue intersection, Rothwell.

The upgrade includes the reconfiguration of the intersection from a roundabout to a signalised intersection.

Commonly known as the Rothwell Roundabout, the intersection is located within Moreton Bay Regional Council (MBRC) and provides a link to Deception Bay Road and Anzac Avenue at Rothwell. The first construction activities will include the installation of traffic controls, vegetation clearing and the relocation of services. The Rothwell Intersection Upgrade (RIU) is due for completion by late-2017, construction and weather permitting.

The RIU includes reconfiguring the roundabout to a signalised intersection. As the intersection will be 1.5 metres higher than McGahey Street, entering or exiting the street would be on a steep gradient with limited visibility, therefore McGahey Street will become a cul-de-sac to improve safety, efficiency and capacity throughout the Rothwell intersection.

The upgrade will also include an additional left turn lane to provide access to the Woolworths Shopping Centre and Shell Service Station, for motorists turning from Anzac Avenue (eastbound) onto Deception Bay Road (northbound). Signalised crossings will be provided on all legs of the intersection to improve pedestrian connectivity.

Project benefits

The RIU will bring many key benefits to both local residents and those travelling through to the wider region. Key benefits include:

  • Increased safety for motorists, local residents, cyclists and pedestrians
  • Designated cycle lanes throughout the intersection
  • Signalised pedestrian crossings and paths throughout and adjacent to the intersection
  • Decreased travel times for motorists by easing congestion and increasing capacity

Construction activities

Early work activities will involve raising the current road level around the existing roundabout and medians to prepare for temporary traffic realignments, and the installation of traffic management barriers. Once the existing road levels have been raised, a temporary traffic realignment will be implemented to move traffic lanes closer to the existing roundabout to accommodate road construction activities on the outer part of the road corridor. This stage will also involve drainage works, relocation of services and earthworks.

Due to the nature and location of some work activities, night work will occur between 6.30pm to 6.30am when traffic volumes are at their lowest. Works are not expected to significantly impact current traffic flows. Where possible, affected residents and businesses will be notified in advance of activities scheduled outside normal working hours. Thank you for your patience and cooperation during these important activities.

What to expect:

  • Mobile lighting towers to light the work area.
  • The use of light vehicles, mobile cranes, excavators, trucks, compaction rollers, profilers and road sealing trucks, and line marking plant.
  • Cutting tools, tree clearing and stump grinding machinery.
  • Work will be carried out under traffic control at all times and may cause some minor delays for traffic.

rothwell-roundabout-intersection-upgrade-overview

Project information

The Rothwell Intersection Upgrade (RIU) is a joint federal, state and local government initiative. The upgrade will convert the existing roundabout at Deception Bay Road and Anzac Avenue to a signalised intersection.

The RIU will deliver an improved intersection and relieve traffic congestion by increasing the capacity and reliability for motorists and provide safe access to the Rothwell station precinct. The design will include signalised pedestrian crossings, shared user path and designated cyclist lanes. The RIU will take approximately 12 months to complete, weather and construction conditions permitting. CPB Contractors Pty Ltd were awarded the contract to design and build the project.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads appreciate your patience during these important works and will continue to update you as work progresses.
