0
progress-association

The Mango Hill Progress Association is calling on the Community to offer their help, by way of donations or volunteer work to contribute to the success of the Mango Hill Christmas Carols this year.

The long running event has brought much joy to the locals of the Community over the last 30 years and will once again be celebrated in style at the Danzy Buchanan park (off Kinsellas Road West) in the Mango Hill Village on Saturday, the 10th of December from 4:00pm-8:45pm.

Kicking off the event at 4:00pm will be a family picnic and games, followed by Santa’s arrival at 5.15pm. Carols and the Evening’s program will start at 6:00pm with the night to be finished off with the spectacular KC fireworks display!

There will be food tents, a free giant slide, free jumping castle for the younger children, face painting, fairy floss plus plenty more!

The Mango Hill Progress Association will be coordinating a Christmas Hamper Collection for the weekend to raise funds from the raffle for ice creams and gifts for the children.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could grab a few extra goodies during your normal grocery shop to contribute and don’t forget to keep an ear out for the bell ring from the Christmas Trailer, seeking your donations.

Volunteers are also sought both to collect contributions this weekend and also to set up for the event. Most likely Friday afternoon/evening on 9th Dec – subject to weather.

Don’t forget to let your neighbours know, especially if they are new to our  Community!

Mango Hill Post Box Needs Public Support

0
Post Box Puma August 2016

Australia Post is seeking to remove Mango Hill’s original Post Box from the Puma Service Station on Anzac Ave.

Australia Post have stated that a notice will appear in the local newspaper and a sign will be placed on the Post Box for a minimum of 30 days to allow local residents to raise any issues.

Australia Post have advised that usable levels should generally exceed 25 letters per day and that this Post Box has significantly lower volumes than that required to maintain the service.

Big Local North Lakes and The Mango Hill Progress Association strongly encourage residents to use this facility as the saying of “use it or lose it”, very much applies.

Puma Proprietor, John Hamon is supporting retention of this Post Box, stating:

• “Not only is the mailbox an area icon, it is one of the most convenient and safe mailboxes we have utilised. People can park their vehicle off the road, take a few steps to the box and safely drop their mail.
• “Through” traffic is not inconvenienced.
• As well, Mailbox customers do not have to queue for a car-parking space and attempt to merge with thru traffic – unlike many roadside mailboxes which can create a traffic hazard.

Post Box Puma August 2016

The Mango Hill Progress Association is seeking a 6 month moratorium on any action to remove this box pending genuine consultation and the opportunity to promote greater usage of the service.

Australia Post is encouraging local residents to provide feedback to be considered by them.

Concerned residents can provide Australia Post with feedback on 13 13 18, or at: https://auspost.com.au/help/#/contact_us/product_enquiry

Big Local North Lakes and The Mango Hill Progress Association also encourage your feedback on the Facebook thread.

This issue will be an Agenda item at this Wednesdays meeting of the Mango Hill Progress Association.

Rothwell Roundabout Upgrade – Completion Aimed For Late 2017

0
rothwell-roundabout-intersection-upgrade-overview

From July 2016, work will commence on upgrading the Deception Bay Road and Anzac Avenue intersection, Rothwell.

The upgrade includes the reconfiguration of the intersection from a roundabout to a signalised intersection.

Commonly known as the Rothwell Roundabout, the intersection is located within Moreton Bay Regional Council (MBRC) and provides a link to Deception Bay Road and Anzac Avenue at Rothwell. The first construction activities will include the installation of traffic controls, vegetation clearing and the relocation of services. The Rothwell Intersection Upgrade (RIU) is due for completion by late-2017, construction and weather permitting.

The RIU includes reconfiguring the roundabout to a signalised intersection. As the intersection will be 1.5 metres higher than McGahey Street, entering or exiting the street would be on a steep gradient with limited visibility, therefore McGahey Street will become a cul-de-sac to improve safety, efficiency and capacity throughout the Rothwell intersection.

The upgrade will also include an additional left turn lane to provide access to the Woolworths Shopping Centre and Shell Service Station, for motorists turning from Anzac Avenue (eastbound) onto Deception Bay Road (northbound). Signalised crossings will be provided on all legs of the intersection to improve pedestrian connectivity.

Project benefits

The RIU will bring many key benefits to both local residents and those travelling through to the wider region. Key benefits include:

  • Increased safety for motorists, local residents, cyclists and pedestrians
  • Designated cycle lanes throughout the intersection
  • Signalised pedestrian crossings and paths throughout and adjacent to the intersection
  • Decreased travel times for motorists by easing congestion and increasing capacity

Construction activities

Early work activities will involve raising the current road level around the existing roundabout and medians to prepare for temporary traffic realignments, and the installation of traffic management barriers. Once the existing road levels have been raised, a temporary traffic realignment will be implemented to move traffic lanes closer to the existing roundabout to accommodate road construction activities on the outer part of the road corridor. This stage will also involve drainage works, relocation of services and earthworks.

Due to the nature and location of some work activities, night work will occur between 6.30pm to 6.30am when traffic volumes are at their lowest. Works are not expected to significantly impact current traffic flows. Where possible, affected residents and businesses will be notified in advance of activities scheduled outside normal working hours. Thank you for your patience and cooperation during these important activities.

What to expect:

  • Mobile lighting towers to light the work area.
  • The use of light vehicles, mobile cranes, excavators, trucks, compaction rollers, profilers and road sealing trucks, and line marking plant.
  • Cutting tools, tree clearing and stump grinding machinery.
  • Work will be carried out under traffic control at all times and may cause some minor delays for traffic.

rothwell-roundabout-intersection-upgrade-overview

Project information

The Rothwell Intersection Upgrade (RIU) is a joint federal, state and local government initiative. The upgrade will convert the existing roundabout at Deception Bay Road and Anzac Avenue to a signalised intersection.

The RIU will deliver an improved intersection and relieve traffic congestion by increasing the capacity and reliability for motorists and provide safe access to the Rothwell station precinct. The design will include signalised pedestrian crossings, shared user path and designated cyclist lanes. The RIU will take approximately 12 months to complete, weather and construction conditions permitting. CPB Contractors Pty Ltd were awarded the contract to design and build the project.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads appreciate your patience during these important works and will continue to update you as work progresses.
