Moreton Bay Rail Update

0

Some of you may have noticed Mayor Allan Sutherlands’ current Mayoral campaign brochure which states “Moreton Bay Rail Link – expected to open in April 2016″.

This was exciting news, so we checked the Qld Transport & Main Roads – Moreton Bay Rail page. It still states “New rail line delivered – mid – late 2016″ on the project Timeline. We then contacted Theiss and their best current estimate is mid 2016, but certainly in time for the Brisbane Ekka in August!!

The Morteon Bay Rail Link has however, recently reached several new Milestones such as the handover of the Rail Infrastructure Management (RIM) to Queensland Rail which took place on 27th February. This handover to Queensland Rail allows the commencement of their operation of and management of the rail corridor.

Last Sunday 6th March, the first test trains ran along the line. They will also be conducting electrical ballast, track and signalling testing.

Watch the video to take a Train Drivers eye view and flyover of each of the new train stations.

Driver training is set to commence shortly on the the rail corridor. Drivers must be trained and familiarised on their particular routes. Once the rail corridor is operational, new driver training will take place at the Kippa-Ring Stabling Yard where there will be state of the art driver training facilities including a dedicated Driver Simulator.

It is hoped that a more accurate date for the official opening of the Moreton Bay Rail Link will be provided when Theiss Provide a project update at the next Mango Hill Progress Association Meeting on 18th May 2016.
